We imagined the Camelo table as a pantographic structure to be used in three different heights: as dinner table, as side table, and as coffee table. This project was initially conceived for a restaurant that would serve light meals at lunch time and cocktails in the late afternoon. Everything would have to be put away in the evening, as it was an external space. Therefore, the tables would have to serve different usages and be easy to assemble, transport, and store. Different heights – and thus, different usages – are attained through simple substitution of the poles fixating the structure. As well as height versatility, the tops can also be varied: they can be square or rectangular, with slightly rounded sides. The name alludes to camelôs [Portuguese for “street vendors”] who need to disassemble their tables quickly and transport them every day, And also to camels, animals who will crouch so we can go up and down their backs to ride them.
