We were invited by gallery owners Eduardo Brandão and Eliana Finkelstein, directors at Vermelho Gallery, to design a “piece of furniture” aimed at exhibiting artists’ books and other undefined objects.
They were renovating a house that would be part of the gallery’s main building. Integrating spaces was an important factor in this renovation project by Paulo Mendes da Rocha and José Armênio Brito Cruz. Our intention was to bring forth such integration by using it not only as concept, but also as image. The piece starts as handrail and later becomes bookshelf, in a varied width continuous planes.
This way, we created supports to exhibit works by artists that had different formats from those exhibited in the main rooms of the gallery.
